Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate v’s Ascorbic acid
Ok ok ok, I know what your thinking, these long ridiculous words in skin care just confuse me even more, how the hell do I understand what I need. there both a form of Vitamin C
Essjay to the rescue
I did a Facebook live this week about this topic which was greatly received and fingers crossed it made this topic a little bit clearer for my followers to understand.
First things first
What is vitamin C?
Vitamin c is a very safe effective nutrient which is wildly known to be in foods like oranges berries, gogi berries, spinach, beets and many more.
Why is Vitamin C good for us?
Vitamin C is a very safe nutrient and it is responsible for helping with your immune system, cardiovascular diseases, eye health and many other health problems.
Why is it good for our skin?
We have to remember that our skin is the biggest organ in the body, so that organ needs the benefits that Vitamin C is offering too.
Ok I’m gonna go slightly off topic here but it’s all relivant trust me. lets talk about Free radicals.
I know, we hear loads of sales pitches saying “protection against Free radicals” but do you actually know what the are? Well I’m gonna tell you so get ready for your little science lesson.
What are Free radicals?
The simplest way of explaining this is: Free radicals are unstoppable molecules that cause damage to our cells in our skin and body. They do this because they have missing electrons so there searching for other atoms to latch on to the feel complete. A little sad really however we don’t want these little buggars latching on to our skin cells do we? Free radicals damage DNA and weaken living tissue. The more exposed we are to free radicals the faster our body or skin will deteriorate or age.
What are the causes of Free Radicals?
Unhealthy, processed food
So you can see we can’t avoid all of these but there is so much we can do to reduce the DNA damage.
Can a high Vitamin C diet help against free radicals?
Yes it can, by increasing your vitamin C intake you’re building up your immunity and protecting yourself against free radicals.
How many times has your mum or dad been forcing oranges down your throat to build up your immune system when you’ve been feeling poorly? Just me? studies do actually show that oranges don’t have as much vitamin C as strawberries……. but the sentiment is their.
So how can Vitamin C help my skin?
Using a product rich in Vitamin C will protect the skin against free radicals, build up your skins immunity and because of this it will aid in skin rejuvenation. So basically it will repair damaged cells and prevent cells from becoming damaged.
THE APPLE TEST.
If you cut an apple in half and leave it for a couple of hours it will turn brown. Put some vitamin C on one side and you will notice you have protected is against oxidising. Now imagine this is our skin…….
What is Ascorbic Acid?
Ascorbic acid is found in a lot of vitamin C based products and is very effective to help protect the skin. However there is now a younger, hotter version that is 4 times more effective and will stick around in your skin 40-80 times longer.
Introducing Ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate, try and pronounce that one. Seriously I still struggle.
What is Ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate?
Ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate is An oil-soluble derivative of vitamin C that can be used at higher concentrations without drawbacks. Basically, it does what other forms of Vitamin C do, but far better! Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate is one of the most powerful forms of Vitamin C and the one I stock from Cosmo pro has a whopping 30% in.
What skins would benefit from this?
All skins that are at the stage where ageing and pigmentation is a concern. Also those ready to improve their overall complexion would benefit and if you are wanting to slow down the skins ageing process.
Will it help with pigmentation?
Defiantly, using this as part of a well prescribed skin care at home and in clinic treatment plan will reduce those pigmentation marks. Most importantly it will create protection so it will reduce the chance of pigmentation reappearing in the future.
I hope you are now a little bit more ‘geeked up’ about Vitamin C and its benefits.
